Trenčín: Investor doesn´t want to change location of Aupark

Aupark in Trenčín should stand in the originally proposed site. “The investor insisted on the original intent despite my efforts to offer alternative sites,“ Richard Rybníček, mayor of Trenčín, said. The shopping centre will thus probably stand by the road bridge exit next to the historical centre.

“However, the problem of how to solve the traffic near the building will remain a problem. “The only unmet, but difficult obstacle for Aupark Trenčín project, is the question of transport. At the moment we are preparing this technically challenging solution in full,“ Roman Karabelli, head of marketing and PR department at investment company HB Reavis Slovakia, informed. After completion of project documentation, they plan to introduce draft of the solution to city mayor and other city representatives.

A part of the population has been against construction of Aupark since the start. The referendum was invalid due to low participation. Heritage conservation authorities also spoke against the project. The Regional Heritage Board objected to the height of the shopping centre which, in their opinion, prevents the view of the city centre under the castle. In addition, Slovak Heritage Board claims that the large building in the foreground of the historical centre may negatively influence the panorama of the urban conservation area which they consider as one of the most important in Slovakia.
