The first building in the CR received the domestic certificate of quality named SBToolCZ. The certificate was developed by experts from the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) in Prague and other domestic institutions. The certificate was awarded to the four-storey, 44-flat building in U Libeňského pivovaru street in Prague 8. The system named SBToolCZ is based on a tool already used abroad. Development of Czech version of the system adapted to the Czech conditions took several years. The buildings are assessed not only from ecological, energy and economic viewpoints, it also takes into account safety in the building neighbourhood or the possibility of people from surrounding buildings to find enough space for relaxation. The domestic criteria for awarding the certificate go beyond the valid standards. There are a number of other certification systems abroad. They differ in methodology and criteria for assessment of buildings. These are for example the British system BREEAM, the American LEED, German DGNB or EU valid GreenBuilding certification. Some buildings in the Czech Republic have already obtained international certification. For example, the office building Nordica in Ostrava obtained a GreenBuilding certificate, the ČSOB headquarters in Prague´s Radlice has LEED certification.

Since 2009 there has been a method for assessing energy efficiency of the buildings specified by law in the CR. All new buildings or reconstruction of buildings with floor space of over 1,000 sqm must have so called Energy Performance Certificate.
