As of next year, the state will double the road and motorway repair funding to 9 billion crowns. The amount increasing the repairs funding will be taken from the funds for construction of new roads. Mladá front Dnes informed about this. However, Transport Minister Vít Bárta (Public Affairs) is concerned that even doubling the amount will not be sufficient for the repairs. Last year the state allocated about CZK 2.8 billion for the damaged roads, the budget will be increased to four billion this year, it is expected to grow to nine billion next year.
According to René Poruba, head of construction department at Ředitelství silnic a dálnic (Road and Motorway Directorate), 35 billion crowns are necessary for repairs. “This is the amount we will get if we change not only the road surface but in some places also the lower structural layers,“ said Poruba. In addition, a large part of the money will be consumed by bridge repairs.
The ministry newly plans to supervise the economy of new construction better and to carry it out as cost effectively as possible. Each building will have to undergo a several-critera analysis which hasn´t been used by the state before. According to the proposal, the state will complete nearly all buildings under construction, however, it will start construction of new roads only after 2012.
“An absolute priority for me is the construction of the R35 between Hradec Králové and Mohelnice,“ said Bárta. On the contrary, due to limited financial resources he doesn´t plan completion of the speed road connection between Nové Strašecí and Karlovy Vary with R7 sections to Chomutov, nor with D3 motorway.
