Ministry of Culture will probably take a decision in the first half of April on whether to declare the rarely preserved Gothic vaults near Národní třída a cultural monument. While the Ministry already declared the vaults a monument at the turn of the year, the investor – who plans to build a multi-purpose centre COPA at the place where the vaults are located – appealed against the decision. The building was to be originally completed in 2010 but the project was significantly delayed. In case the vaults become a cultural monument, the investor will be required to protect them and prevent their destruction. This would mean to limit the area of the planned ground floor, where parking spaces were projected. The delay of the COPA centre construction will also postpone the reconstruction of the underground station planned by the the Prague Public Transport Company, a.s. The construction of the multi-purpose centre was already delayed in the past by disagreements over ownership of the building plot.
