The city of Pilsen started to prepare construction of cultural factory Světovar. A trans-regional multicultural centre will be built on a five-hectare site of the former barracks and brewery by 2014. In addition to the planned new theatre and gallery, it will become one of the pillars of the Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015 project (EHMK). The Department of Co-ordination of European projects will prepare the project and ask the city for a grant from the Southwest ROP operational programme by mid-year, mayor Martin Baxa (ODS) said to the Czech News Agency.
After completion of contruction, the city will transfer its management to an independent non-profit organization established by them. The organization will operate the “factory” and it will guarantee fulfillment of its objectives. It will be a public service company called Plzeň 2015 o.p.s., which is authorized to implement a part of the EHMK project. The city will guarantee a five-year sustainability of the centre by providing six million crowns a year.
