Construction of the new south underground D line – measuring 10.6 kilometers and leading from Náměstí Míru via Pankrác to Písnice depot, and serving the neighbourhoods of Krč, Lhotka, Libuš, Nové Dvory and Písnice – will not start before the end of 2014. Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda told this to HN (Hospodářské noviny) although he had promised last year that its construction would start before the next elections. “Today I say that construction of the D line is just a dream and must stop,” said Mr Svoboda. The Mayor is also concerned about the expenditures for preparatory works. “Tens or hundreds of millions spent for preparatory works are nonsense. If the underground D line starts to be built sometime in 2020 it will be completely different issue, there might be completely different technology,” he said. Construction of A and D lines should cost about CZK 104 billion before 2020. Detailed study of the D line was introduced by Metroprojekt in 2002. Metroprojekt still projects the D line today, they won a contract worth CZK 489 million last year. The City Hall will decide on financing A line extension. Construction of A line started last year. “Its construction will probably have to be finished. In my opinion, it will be enough to end it in Veleslavín for now,” said Tomáš Hudeček, Deputy Mayor. By 2014, other stations – Červený Vrch, Veleslavín, Petřiny and Motol – were supposed to be added to A line, according to the original project. The new section will be over six kilometers long and will cost about CZK 18.7 billion in 2008 prices.
