Real estate company Avesta wants to build the highest building in the world on the system of artificial islands in the Caspian Sea. Avesta introduces its grand project on the website khazarislands.com. The plan is to build 1,050-metre business centre in the island town. The building should be 27% higher than the current world’s highest building Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which has 200 floors and is 828 metres high.
The ambitious plan envisages construction of 41 islands, 25 km south of Azerbaijan´s capital Baku. There will be hotels and residential buildings in the island city. The residential buildings will have 18 to 25 floors, some of them will be situated on a separate island, which will be connected to the central one. Two islands are to be reserved only for luxury villas and residences. Construction of the Khazar Islands complex will begin in late 2013.
The world’s height record will, however, be also challenged by the Kingdom Tower skyscraper, which is planned to be built by Saudi Arabia’s investment company in Jeddah on the Red Sea coast. The skyscraper is to be part of the planned centre Kingdom City. Its exact height hasn´t been disclosed, but previous reports indicate its height will be at least 1,000 metres. The construction contract was signed last year and its construction should last five years.
