MOBITEX to accentuate design this year
Next week, another Mobitex trade fair will start in Brno (18 – 22 March). According to an organizer, this year the fair should mostly focus on design. In addition to standard offerings (this year’s portfolio includes 388 exhibitors from 12 countries, incl. Ghana and Bangladesh), this will be especially obvious on the association Designstory project. Its main goal is to present work from students from schools of arts and crafts, but it will also provide a rich accompanying programme, e.g. a lecture and an exhibition of works by the designers Werner Aisslineger from Germany and Rony Plesl (both holders of the Red Dot Design Award); the fair will also offer a special section called Tabletops, with exhibits from Czech glassworks and porcelain works. In addition, the first winner of the Furniture of the Year contest, organized by the Association of Czech Furniture Makers, will be announced at the fair – the contest has 18 participating producers. According to the Association’s estimates, last year the Czech furniture industry produced goods worth CZK 61.8 billion, which marks a slight year-on-year increase. About a third of all goods are exported.
