Vysoké Tatry prepares a building ban

The Vysoké Tatry building authority has commenced proceedings to declare a building ban on the whole territory of the town of Vysoké Tatry. “We need to create space for a peaceful adoption of the zoning plan,” said Juraj Hudáč, head of the town hall. Pavol Stano, member of the town council, thinks that the building ban is a form of pressure on the members to approve the new zoning plan as soon as possible. “It is obvious today that our self-government has lost control over the development in the area concerned,” he said. As an example, he mentioned apartment houses next to Grandhotel Kempinski, the apartment hotel Crocus and the post office in Štrbské Pleso, which is being rebuilt into apartments. The situation is similar in Smokovce, where the original plan to build underground garages was changed into a four-storied building with apartments.
