Two Prague ING buildings have BREEAM

Two Prague commercial properties owned by funds administered by ING REIM CEE – Centrum Zlatý Anděl and Beta building in BB Centrum – have obtained the international environmentally friendly BREEAM certificates. “These certificates prove the high quality of these buildings. This is an important message both for the owner and for the tenants. They gain confidence that these buildings can save operational costs and ensure quality work environment,“ said Barbora Nosková from ING REIM CEE. Nine categories were assessed within the certification process, such as materials used, energy efficiency of the buildings, health and quality of the indoor environment, transport accessibility and water and waste management.

The certification system BREEAM was developed in 1990 by the company Building Research Establishment. There are roughly 110,000 BREEAM certified buildings worldwide. In Central Europe, this building certification system is just taking off and ING REIM is one of the first who had their buildings assessed by independent experts. Apart from the Prague buildings, the shopping centres Campona Shopping Center and Pólus Center (both in Budapest) have also obtained the certificate. The actual certification of the commercial properties was carried out by the Dutch certification company Grontmij.

Buildings use up 30 % of world‘s raw material reserves, 12 % of world‘s water resources and they contribute 40 % to the total global greenhouse gases emissions. The certified buildings have higher construction costs. This is offset by a number of economic as well as ecological benefits and their market value is undoubtedly higher in comparison with other buildings.
