Designer of the capital city’s archives building unknown

Five months later, and the Department of the Interior still does not know the designer of Bratislava’s archives building. “We’re still at the stage of preparation of the tender documentation to get a designer for the new archives building,” said Alena Koišová, of the Office of the Minister of the Interior. The construction project was approved by the previous government 3 years ago. However, its implementation was delayed due to the Ministry’s budget restrictions. The new archives worth about EUR 6.3 million should be erected in the complex of the Slovak National Archives on Drotárksa cesta, Bratislava. “Right now we’re negotiating the contents of the urban and architectural study with the Bratislava City Hall,” Koišová said. The Bratislava Municipal Archives on the Laurinská Street were flooded at the beginning of June 2008. Its undamaged part was transported by the Ministry of the Interior to the state archives’ deposit in Plavecké Podhradie. The archives take care of 6,500 running metres of archived documents of incalculable historical value (the oldest documents coming from the 13th century) and record over 520 archives funds. They also include a regional library with over 90,000 volumes.
