Košice’s ZOO is getting ready for investments worth over €100,000

The zoological garden (ZOO) in Košice is planning reconstructions and the construction of several breeding facilities for over €105,000. “We want to enlarge the living areas for our animals, since the facilities are rather worn and do not comply with breeding conditions,” said Štefan Kollár, the zoo’s Director. Based on an audit and recommendations by a coordinator for the breeding of exotic birds from the Union of Czech and Slovak Zoological Gardens, the zoo will reconstruct its breeding facility for penguins. Likewise, the dilapidated condition of the metal-sheet hay-barn, which is part of the Hucul horse complex, also necessitates repairs. The same applies to the amphitheatre, because of its bad technical condition. New facilities will be also built to improve the breeding conditions for the animals. According to the Director, the complex features all elements of open nature. The services of Košice’s zoo should be further enhanced by the construction of a children’s playground and buffets.
