Bids in the 3rd package of PPP projects till May 11th
Candidates for the obtaining of 30-year concession in the 3rd package of PPP projects for the construction and operation of the D1 motorway stages near Žilina have submitted bids till today – May 11th. Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny therefore asked for the deadline postponement for selecting a concessionaire till June 30th. "As a result of the global crisis and the impossibility of providing financial backing of PPP projects in such a short time it was not possible to implement individual stages of the 3rd package of PPP projects in the stated dates”, explained the department of transport this step. Vážny assumed that the concessionaire for the 3rd package could be known in 3 weeks from the submission of bids. Investment costs for the construction of D1 and R1 stages through all three PPP projects have to achieve around 5.4 bills Euro from private sources. In the background of the ongoing financial crisis multilateral institutions and commercial banks may work together on the financial coverage of the 2nd and later also of the 1st package of PPP projects according to the transport department.
