The pavement in streets of Bratislava Old Town, through which the Bratislava Marathon 2009 routes will pass, will be repaired temporarily for the competition. The 4th year of this sport and social event is planned to the weekend from 27 to 29 March. The most critical sections of roads will be repaired locally which means that loosen paving bricks will be soled and re-laid. “The pavement in the town centre is in terrible disrepair, however, for technical reasons, it is not possible to repair it before the competition,” said Old Town mayor Andrej Petrek. According to him, the reason for such state of disrepair is this extraordinarily heavy winter and frequent changes of precipitations, frosts and warming up. He also added that the borough would start with comprehensive renovation of pavements immediately after the competition, the first works in the street Strakova should start on 3 April.
