Motorway from Bratislava to Košice should be completed by 2014
The missing sections of D1 motorway between Bratislava and Košice may be completed by 2014. Minister of Transport, Ján Figeľ acknowledged this, saying that the ministry priority in the government mission statement will be an intensive development of the motorway network. “I am convinced that high-standard road connection will be built between Bratislava and Košice by the year 2014. The speed and the standard is not only a part of an analysis but also of negotiations,“ Figeľ replied to the question on the term of completion of the motorway from Bratislava to Košice. One of the problems of the current situation is the fact that previous government had unrealistic goals for motorway construction and it put itself in an unfavourable position and the partners exploited or even abused this. The ministry plans to finance construction of motorways, not only from Eurofunds, but also from funds from the second pension pillar.
